Virgilio is remembered as an adoring dad to his 4-year-old son, Joseph.
"He had a life of ups and downs but always lived life to the fullest," his brother Daniel wrote on a GoFundMe page for the youngster.
"He was a fun loving man who did everything he could for his 4-year-old son."
Born in White Plans, Virgilio was a self-employed pool technician in the Putnam County area.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hockey, was an avid fan of the New York Rangers and snowboarding, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Condolences poured in.
"Many hearts are breaking knowing you’re not here," one person wrote on the GoFundMe. "I hope your son carries your free spirit and infectious smile."
"Joey (JHV) we have loved you since the day you were born, treated you like you were are own," others said.
"We will always stand behind all of your aspirations in life. We love you to pieces."
